History
of the Passion Play
The Passion Play began the summer
of 2000. Deborah Kercher, noted for her puppetry,
signing of songs, and drama productions at Temple
Baptist Church, was inspired after listening
to Ray Boltz sing He’s Alive. She completed
the script in August of that year, much of it
coming directly from the Bible. The play includes
the use of several contemporary Christian songs,
a signature of Kercher’s works. The first
production of the Passion play was offered Easter
weekend 2001 at Temple Baptist Church with an
overwhelming response of over 900 people attending
the four performances.

Plans were made to offer the
play to more people and enhance the stage sets
by moving it to the Reiland Fine Arts Center
on the campus of Jamestown College. Over 4,000
people attended the performances over Easter
weekend 2002, 2003 & 2005. In 2007 we moved
the production to the Jamestown High School
Theater, where it will be at once again in 2009.
We took 2004, 2006 & 2008
off.
This marks the sixth year of
the production.

Some of the cast members have
changed over the years, but much of the play
remains as it was originally written in 2000.
Thank you for celebrating the good news of Jesus
Christ with us.
